Profile: Moliterno, Inc. fabricates flat glass products. We offer replacement plates and cassettes for electrophoresis systems. Our electrophoresis glass plates are fabricated from 1.0mm to 6.0mm glass. The glass plates are seamed (sanded) for safe handling; if the glass plate is ordered with a notch, it is cut with a diamond-wet saw and cleaned. The glass plates are packaged with paper interleaving to prevent scratches. Our borosilicate glasses are composed mainly of silica (70-80%) and boric oxide (7-13%) with smaller amounts of the alkalis (sodium & potassium oxides) and aluminum oxide. They are characterized by the relatively low alkali content and consequently have good chemical durability and thermal shock resistance. Thus, they are permanently suitable for process plants in the chemical industry, for laboratory apparatus, for ampoules and other pharmaceutical containers, for various high intensity lighting applications and as glass fibers for textile and plastic reinforcement. In the home market, they are familiar in the form of ovenware and other heat-resisting ware, marketed under the brand name of Pyrex.
